잠 습관 만들기
재우는 일은 집집마다 싸움입니다. 여기서는 「이렇게 하세요」 대신, 지금까지 무엇이 밝혀져 있는지를 적습니다. 판단은 각 집 사정에 맞춰 하시면 됩니다.
01나이마다 필요한 잠
미국 수면의학회가 내놓은 권장량이 널리 쓰입니다. 미국 질병통제예방센터 보고서에 실린 값입니다.
- 4~11개월 — 적어도 12시간 (낮잠 포함)
- 1~2세 — 적어도 11시간 (낮잠 포함)
- 3~5세 — 적어도 10시간 (낮잠 포함)
- 6~12세 — 하루 9~12시간
- 13~18세 — 하루 8~10시간
숫자는 폭으로 주어집니다. 같은 나이라도 필요한 양이 다르기 때문입니다.
02모자라면 무엇과 얽히나
잠이 짧은 아이·청소년에게서 비만, 당뇨, 다침, 정신 건강, 주의와 행동 문제, 학업 성적이 함께 보고됩니다.
다만 이런 보고는 함께 나타난다는 관찰이지, 잠이 부족해서 그렇게 된다고 못 박은 것은 아닙니다. 순서가 반대일 수도 있고, 다른 이유가 둘 다를 만들었을 수도 있습니다.
